This is also where you can appreciate the range of craft techniques that expertly go into each design; for example, vitreous enameling and lost wax carving (where one works directly into wax before the piece is cast in metal). “It is a very detailed, delicate and fragile process, but the freedom to form and add texture manually enables me to realize my designs efficiently and to focus on the details,” Aida explains. In fact, she was first drawn to the jewellery technique of lost wax carving in order to use it for her sculptural work. However, the process enthralled her so much that she has employed it in her jewellery ever since. Spectacular blooms, salamanders, snails and snakes are heroes of cocktail rings, brooches, necklaces and earrings that are just like three dimensional portable artworks.
